24K (or)Pure Gold

(100% purifying Gold , 24/24 )

Pt 990

(99.0% purifying platinum)

(75% purifying   gold , 18/24 )

Pt 950

(95% purifying platinum)

14K (or) Au 585

Since 18K gold includes 75% pure gold ,it's quality is the better than 14K gold .Our sakura jewellery also uses only 18K white, pink and yellow

gold. So,I would like to differentiate between 18K gold and Platinum as follow.

Properties

Metals

Properties

Prices

¨While prices for both metals have come to be fairly comparable, platinum is still more expensive than white gold on account of the following;

¨Platinum is purer than white gold

¨Platinum is more dense and more metal is needed than white gold

¨Platinum is more difficult to work with and high labor costs

¨Platinum is rarer and mined much less than gold .

Durability

Though both gold and platinum are strong and durable precious metals, platinum is the stronger and more durable of the 18K gold.

According to MOH hardness scale,Gold hardness is 2.5 and Platinum is 4 .

Durability of 18K white gold is 29000 PSI and Pt950/Co is 64000 PSI .So,Platinum is almost twice as durable as 18K gold.

Scratches

Platinum

¨All precious metals can scratch .

¨But, the scratch on platinum is merely a displacement of the metal and none of its volume is lost.

¨Overtime, platinum develops a natural patina which attractive as polish finish.

White Gold

¨When white gold is scratched, the gold metal is actually removed and which can leave white gold looking a bit yellowish.

The good thing is that re-polishing your ring will help restore the ring to near its original look for both platinum and white gold.

Comfort

Because platinum is more dense than gold, platinum rings will be heavier than gold as well. Some prefer the heavier weight, but some find the lightness of gold rings to be more comfortable. It is really up to each individual person.

One more benefit of platinum is that it is hypoallergenic. While gold rings do not create an allergy issue for most people, some can develop an allergic reaction from the nickel alloy used in gold rings.

Shining

¨White gold is very high reflective and much whiter and brighter in new condition.

¨Over a period of time, the Rhodium in both platinum and 18K white gold eventually wears off giving a dull grey look.

¨ But, the shine can be replaced by re-plating the Rhodium.
